Get Your Home “Sale-Ready” (Even If You’re Not Ready to Sell)

Taking advantage of the extra time at home, 75% of homeowners have completed a major home improvement project since the beginning of the COVID-19 restrictions, and nearly the same number have one planned. It’s almost as if we’re looking at our own homes through the eyes of a buyer, saying, “what would make this place more appealing?” Your home will never look better than on that day it is shown to potential buyers. But why wait? Here are a few ways you can get your home sale-ready (even if you’re not ready to sell) ... so you can enjoy the perks!

Declutter & Organize

You’ve heard it before: “a cluttered space is a cluttered mind.” And now that our spaces are also for working, schooling, exercising, virtually socializing, etc., there are even more chances for clutter — not to mention all the packaging left over from Amazon. So take this time to improve your mental health by getting your rooms organized. Do a quick assessment of things you really do and don’t need then only keep the items that are necessary and spark joy, as Marie Kondo says. For everything else, recycle what you can, donate what you can, and get rid of the rest. 

 

Up Your Curb Appeal

Typically, curb appeal refers to the front of your house, that first view that invites potential buyers in. However, with more and more people valuing outdoor home space, let’s include the back curb too. Some simple ways to improve the outdoor look of your home include:

 •  Powerwashing your house, sidewalks, patio, etc. 
 •  Adding greenery and pops of color through plants (spring is right around the corner!)
 •  Updating your patio furniture
 •  Changing outdated light fixtures and adding in fun elements like cafe lights

 

 

Make That Fix You’ve Been Putting Off

If you were selling your home tomorrow, you wouldn’t leave things broken, would you? So, why do we live that way? Make a list of the things in your house that need fixing, and note what can be done yourself. Is it as simple as replacing a doorknob or putting some WD-40 on a squeaky door? Knock it out yourself! Is it fixing the ice maker that constantly jams up and ruins home happy hours? Probably call a handyman. But either way, don’t put off those minor fixes that simply annoy you. 

It’s been made abundantly clear that home is now more important than ever, so let’s make our spaces the best they can be. You don’t have to be ready to sell your home to get your home sale-ready.
